Transcript:How to Add Amazon.com Contextual Links to a Site

Hi I'm Don Schechter for About.com. Today I'll talk about contextual links on Amazon.com.

Why Amazon.com Contextual Links Are Helpful

Contextual links are links that you might see on a friends blog or another website that advertise products related to the content you are reading. If you click on a link like this, you will be brought to the details page of a product that is for sale on Amazon.com.

How Amazon.com Contextual Links on a Site Make Money

What makes contextual links unique is that they automatically find products to advertise which are relevant to your content. If a viewer clicks on the link the website with the contextual link can generate profits via referral fees. This way bloggers, reviewers, and other website owners can link to Amazon.com and generate small profits depending on their content and viewer traffic. This is an example that Amazon gives.

Instructions for Adding Contextual Links to a Site

To add context links to your website, sign into amazon.com/associates with your user name and password. If you dont have an associates account at amazon, you can register by clicking here. Once you are signed in, click on the Build Links/Widgets link on the left hand side. You will be brought to a page offering a variety of different links for your website. Choose the Context Links and click on Add to Your Webpage.

Once there, you will receive a piece of code to embed in your website. This page also allows you to customize what the links will look like, as well as choose the maximum number of links you want on each page. Once you have made your choices, you can then and copy and paste the code into your website. If someone helped you build your website, you may want them to help you find where to paste the code. You only have to do this once and any future content will be monetized. This saves a lot of time because you wont have to manually create the links.

Once the code is embedded, amazon will identify and link phrases and words to Amazon.com products.

You can choose to have a preview open when your mouse hovers over a link. This allows visitors to view the product without leaving your page.
